Winter At QYC

Take advantage of what Quannapowitt has to offer in the off season. The club is a great place to ice skate, cross country ski or just sit by the fire with QYC friends and watch the Sunday football game. The club is open and you have keys. Members are encouraged to organize pot luck dinners or other events during the off season. Please contact a board member with any suggestions.

Chaos Cup Returns!

On October 18th 2008, The Quannapowitt Yacht Club (Fleet 187) had the pleasure of hosting its first annual “Chaos Cup” regatta in the Flying Scot.  Traditionally the regatta was hosted in the International 110 but due to a lack of interest in the International 110 fleet at QYC we decided to re-brand the regatta and sail in the Flying Scot.  The regatta was usually hosted on Columbus Day weekend but this year due to scheduling conflicts we pushed it out a week.

New Host

Just to let you all know that we have changed hosting providers. The data here should be up to date but some minor things may be missing.

Other exciting things have been going on at the club like the Last Blast Laser Regatta and the Flying Scot Chaos Cup. More information will be posted as soon as it is available about those two events.

Don't forget that Closing Day is this weekend Saturday, October 25.

Rescue Boat Training Classes a Big Success

Fleet Captain Gene Mullen held rescue boat training classes five Thursday evenings in June. Participants received 1:1 instruction for 30 minutes and a rescue boat checklist. Thanks to Gene for providing valuable individualized instruction. Safety is a very important and teaching people how to operate the club's equipment is invaluable to the members and people that we assist out on the lake.

Summer Notes

We are about halfway through our sailing season and activities at QYC are in full swing.

The weather of late has not been very cooperative, but most of us have made the best of it.

The Race Committee under the direction of John Kerr has been fun for all those participating. Please see John’s comments further down in this Reef Points publication.

Message From The Commodore

Hi everyone,

Annual Meeting

Friday night's Annual Spring Meeting went very well. If you were there, thank youfor coming. If you were not able to make it, unfortunately, you missed an outstanding guest speaker. Diane Kampf, from the Flying Scot Association gave an excellent overview of the 19' Flying Scot and the organization. Diane has sent me a copy of her presentation in case anyone would like a copy.

Almost Time...

Spring is here and it is almost time to take the covers off of boats and get racing!

Calling It Quits

After everyone else had called it quits. After all of the turkey was gone. Brian and Steve declared the 2007 season over one week after the Thanks Giving holiday. They had been anxiosly watching the weather and predicted temperatures below freezing at night finally persuaded them to pull their boats out for the winter. Barely one week after the lake was mostly frozen over. Brian and Steve acquired their Scots this year and surely got their moneys worth.

Victorious Blip

QYC Member, Chris Hufstader, crewed for the winning team at the 2007 Sonar Worlds in Marblehead Massachusetts. Chris sailed with Ed Keller, Doug Sabin, skipper Bill Lynn. Congrats!

Squall Hits Wednesday Night Sailors

Wednesday night sailors got more action than they bargained for this week when a sudden storm rolled through. Heavy rains and high winds knocked over four boats. The club mercury, and crew, were driven to the south end of the lake near the commons where it ran aground. The windsurfers took advantage of the high winds and were planing back and fourth across the lake.
