We need volunteers to help prep the club and greet prospective members, contact Rich and Pauline Mastronardi. And come practice with us so our guests see a busy club.
An on-the-water practice day is a great way to start the racing season, which begins on Wednesday evening. You will have a chance to practice starts and mark roundings. This practice is for beginners and experienced sailors. We’ll do a little bit of tacking practice and then run 3-minute start sequences, sail the course for 2 minutes and then do it again and again. We’ll send two or three people at a time to round a close set mark and let you practice staying clear of each other and the mark. If we have time we’ll do a couple of very short races.
There will be coach boats, a captains meeting at 9:30 to brief you about the drills and a debrief session after we get off the water. Get there early and rig your boat so you get the most practice. If there is some wind and no storms, we’ll go out rain or shine. If you have any questions contact Brian Wilson or Jay Livingston.
Don’t have your boat in the water yet? If you can’t launch on Saturday then consider crewing for someone else. If you’re an experienced racer join us for the practice or volunteer to be an on-board coach for another member.
If you aren’t ready to be on the water, get a few of your work hours out of the way early and help attract new members to the club. This is a great time to invite your friends to stop by and see what we have to offer. Plan on being there at 9:00 to help set things up. New members add vitality to our racing programs and support the clubs finances. Practice is the crucial step toward making you a winner.
