Commodore's Corner

Hi Everyone,

Well the calendar year is coming to a close and I just wanted to share with you my thoughts from the past two years as Commodore.

We have shared some interesting times.  Let me list just a few highlights.

  • The addition of St John’s Prep to our family.  What a pleasure it is to have Coaches Bill Mackinson and Charlie Newhall and all their young sailors here with us.   We look forward to seeing them again in the spring.
  • Growth in all of our fleets: Lasers, Daysailers, Mercurys, and Flying Scots.
  • New floatation on our dingy dock.  In the future we will be considering replacing all the floatation on all of our docks.
  • New racking system for Lasers.
  • Josh Krepps and Nick Vardaro doing so well in the US Sailing Junior Olympics and having the opportunity to represent us in Florida at the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta in Dec. 2007.
  • Addition of A/C to the clubhouse
  • Additional landscaping around the clubhouse
  • And, of course, let us not forget the LOWERING OF THE LAKE scare!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who served with me on the QYC Board over the past two years.  Rick, Jay, Mary, Wendy, Gene, Deb, Eric, Richard, Pauline, Ken and Kurt….THANK YOU!  I look forward to working with new board members: Jack, Mark and Jay.  I would like to wish our entire incoming 2009 Board my best wishes. In these tough economic times we will, as we always have, adjust to the challenges and do everything possible to preserve OUR club.

I would also like to thank all the members of the Captain’s Club and the QATII for all their support and help both personally and during my tenure as Commodore.  Their expertise was invaluable.
Finally, I want thank my fellow sailors for allowing me the honor to serve as your Commodore for the past two years.  It was an experience I will never forget!

Best regards,
Bonny Smith
