Racing - Get into the action!

The racing has picked up as the weather has warmed.  The Lasers and singled handed Daysailers had a decent turnout for the Summer I series with the Lasers averaging just over 4 starters and the Daysailers, just under 4.  Overall, the participation on Sundays is okay but it would be great if at least 3 Flying Scots, 3 Mercurys and 3 Daysailers were on the line every Sunday.

Wednesday evenings has had a good turnout.  This is a fun series where everyone starts at the same time and the scoring is adjusted by using the Portsmouth corrected time so that all boats get an equal chance at winning.  Usually there are three quick races, one starting immediately after the other.  The first race starts around 6:40 PM.  For those that have never raced, this is a good opportunity to give it a try.

Some people cannot commit to a 6 week race series.  That should not stop you from racing whenever it’s convenient for you.  You will be scored the same as everyone else.  Some participation is far superior to none.

Racing is a great way to improve your sailing skills and to increase your confidence.  It provides an opportunity to see first hand what others are doing so that you can learn first hand.  There are always mini races going on in any race between 2 or 3 boats that are not in the lead.  The objective is to see if you can beat the boat in front of you.

And you are always welcome to go out on the Kon Tiki with the Race Committee so that you can view racing first hand.
