This year a new volunteer policy was announced. Details on the policy have not yet been released. It will basically add more structure and clarity to the current policy.
New plans for teaching beginners how to race were also discussed. Several workshops, that will be announced, will be held to gently introduce the novice sailor into racing. Even if you are not a competitive person coming to the club and navigating around a race course can add a whole new dimension to your sailing experience. Every club member is welcome.
Deb is working with Jeff to transition responsibility of the Youth Sailing Program. Her hard work over the last few years has been instrumental in the success of that program. The program has sparked the interest in sailing for many young people who would not have had the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of the sport. We thank Jeff for taking on this huge responsibility.
A proposal to leave the docks in during the winter was also heard. People were concerned about damage that could be caused by the ice forming around them. The dock builders from Custom Floats explained that stacking them, as we do now, may cause even more damage than leaving them in the water all winter. Further discussion and investigation on this topic is being done.
The Treasurer, Pauline, also announced that she will be resigning her post at the end of the year. If anyone is interested please let the board know so that they can fill that vacancy.
After the business portion of the meeting Captain Richard "Kip" Files of the Victory Chimes gave a fascinating talk about his beautiful and historic boat. He presented a slide show detailing the significance of the design and history of his boat. Kip also answered questions regarding what it is like to be responsible for such a large and historical boat.
